cgiemail

Postby dantemclean » Fri Oct 28, 2005 9:45 pm

Hi:

New to this host. Have basic HTML and UNIX skills (run several NeXT machines for fun). Newbie to using CGI as a posting method for HTML forms.

I have a form where <form method=POST action="http://www.dantemclean.ca/public_html/cgi-bin/cgiemail">. I have tried various pathnames here, but cannot get it to work. I am getting;

Not Found
The requested URL /cgi-bin/cgiemail was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

So, what gives? The cgi-bin directory clearly contains a script called cgiemail. Is my pathname way off, or is there some other problem I am missing here?

Page in question is dantemclean.ca/lang_mon/addword.html if anyone wants to peak at the source.

TIA.

Try: http://www.dantemclean.ca/cgi-bin/cgiemail

You dont need 'public_html' there, thats only realative for the backend

Problems setting up cgiemail - does it work?

Postby mrknight » Thu Jun 01, 2006 5:41 pm

Hi

I've been trying to set up cgiemail but I'm not having much luck. I've read the posts in the forums and the guide at http://web.mit.edu/wwwdev/cgiemail/user.html but still I get the message below, or words to that effect. Perhaps someone has the time to assist me!

Not Found
The requested URL /cgi-bin/cgiemail was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

My path for cgiemail is www.mydomain/cgi-bin/cgiemail/tempate.txt

I've change the permissions back and forth, set up the template as instructed, set up my form with the correct address in the post action field.

Also when I go into cPanel and into the CGI Center, when I click on Cgi Email link I notice that doesn't work either, I get the same error as above. Am I missing something fundemental here guy's or maybe I'm just a bit slow.
Does this script work, or does anyone have any useful tip's .. I have read the manual and followed it to the letter..... still .... frustration?

Time for a movie and chill out for a while.

Thanks for any assisstance.
