Those with WHM access for their VPS or dedicated server may be familiar with an option called "Optimize Website" under Software/Services in WHM. If you find that the option is missing, you can enable it by recompiling Apache with the mod_deflate option checked.

Optimize Website allows the ability for Apache 2.0 and 2.2 to compress content before sending it to the visitor's browser. The types of content to be compressed are specified by MIME type.
