I type in my cPanel url - http://www.my-domain.com/cPanel - and it times out every time.

You can access the cpanel using the following:

http://www.my-domain.com:2082

2082- cpanel port

The issue with accessing the cpanel using url - http://www.my-domain.com/cPanel will be due to any error in domain settings. Please let us know the domain name to check the same.

We have found that company workplaces will not allow access to cPanel or webmail because they block these ports for security reasons.
