Things to keep in mind when choosing to use cPanel/WH or not

Postby Kings » Mon May 31, 2010 3:09 pm

This topic mainly applies to VPS and Dedicated Server clients:

1) cPanel must be installed on a clean server that is not in production. Additionally, the server should not have the Web Server, FTP Server or Mail Server yum groups installed, and should not have X Window installed. The cPanel installer script will install all of the services that are required. A server that is to have cPanel installed needs to have the bare minimum OS installed, with only SSH access and a working yum (on CentOS or Red Hat; FreeBSD uses ports and packages).

2) There is no provision for uninstalling cPanel. It modifies too many files and services for an uninstall to be successful. The only way to uninstall cPanel is to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.
