Question about domains

A friend of mine in Russia is looking for my help in building a website. Being Canadian, I thought of CWH since I can't read the Russian web host portals. He wants the domain to end in ".ru". Is that something CWH can host? Also, is there any way to restrict the access to such a site to only people from Russia? That last point is not a big deal, but the .ru domain name is.

Finally, does CWH register domain names, or do you have any suggestions for a registrar?

Thanks,
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

CWH can definitely provide hosting services for your friend’s. ru domain, but unfortunately your friend will need register the domain with a registrar that supports that extension since .ru is special extension and is current not support by our registrars at this time.

The second part to your question about restricting access to a specific region is yes it can be done. To do this you would need to setup and modify your .htaccess file.

http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess5.shtml

Step 1: Generate the IP range for the selected country.
http://www.ip2location.com/blockvisitorsbycountry.aspx

Step 2: Block the IPs in step 1 by configuring them in your .htaccess file.

I hope that helps you in your search. Our support team also on hand to assists you if needed.
