How it is that you are able to view a web page? The golden trick is web hosting. Web hosting allows for a website to be public on the internet. If you are thinking of creating a website, it will not get online if it is just on your computer. Web hosting is the process by which a server hosts web pages, which get online through a dedicated connection. A website first needs to be designed and coded on a regular computer. You can create a webpage on your own personal desktop computer, and have it ready for publishing. A Web hosting company will have a network of computers that are connected to the internet through a secure connection. These special computers are known as servers, as they serve the internet with web pages. Web hosting will charge you, in order to host your sites on their servers.
The internet is connected by a series of IP addresses. Just like your home has an address, each location on the internet has an address, known as the Internet Protocol address. Usually in the form 168.0.255.169. Your website will be accessible through a set IP address, but to it would be hard to remember all the numbers for websites. Due to this reason, we have domain names. Domains names come with various extensions (ie: .com, .net, .info, etc.). By accessing a site with a domain name, we are connecting to the same location, as if we were to connect through the IP address.
