No more ssh access

For more than one week, I have not been able to login to my (shared hosting) server as ssh access has been blocked. I was informed that this was done due to "security reasons". A follow-up question to my ticket has been unanswered for a week now, so I am asking here.

My questions:

1. Why was this significant change not announced at least 4-6 weeks in advance? Simply locking customers out of their servers is extremely unprofessional. Finding a new web hoster, transferring the domain, data, etc. takes time, as you are no doubt aware.

2. Instead of simply blocking ssh, why wasn't a more sensible approach taken first to increase security, like only allowing password-less logins (pre-shared key), which is standard with other web hosters?

3. When searching for a web hoster, ssh access was a know-out criterion for me. I specifically signed up for a package with ssh access. Am I now supposed to pay the full monthly fee for a package that is essentially useless to me?

4. How am I supposed to access my data in a SECURE fashion now that neither ssh nor sftp work?

Hi,

Sorry for the sudden change in our security policy. It was done to minimize the effects of a recent compromise:

We are working very hard to restore SSH access. Many accounts already have SSH and we are doing our best to restore the rest.

Is there any timeline for SSH to be fully restored?

Hi,

Please give our sales department a call and they will be able to get your SSH access up and running again. There will need to be changes made to where your site is, but you will have ssh access.

If you run into problems, please let me know.
