Recommendation on netbook

So over the weekend, I was asked by my parents about purchasing a netbook. But I've only seen them but used one before. So does anyone have a good recommendation for a netbook and NO Apple products as it needs to be within budget; plus they have never used an apple before.

So please give me some brands and why you like that particular netbook.

What is your budget? and what do you need it for? I have seen some netbooks on sale at $299 with decent spec.

I've got an HP 2102 and overall have been happy with it. The screen can be a little small at times, but the size and lightness more than make up for that. I think there is a new generation of netbooks coming out that offer Intel's latest Atom processor, which should be an improvement on performance and battery life. My netbook claims 9 hours of battery life, but so far I have only reached about 5 hours max time. If I was going to buy one again, I would definitely go with a 11 or 12 inch screen just for easier reading. :) Asus and Toshiba have these.

Yeah I'm thinking about getting a new laptop as well. I'm actually taking a look at the Dell Vostro V13. It's slim and pretty! The specs on it are not too bad either.

My parents are looking for a decent size screen; a little bigger screen will definitely be helpful. Budget I would guess around 300-500 at most and they will most be using it to check emails, some word processing and of course viewing their photos.

Actually I'm thinking about that too.. I will probably buy a laptop in the $500-600 range soon and the IPad falls into that budget. It a nice device but I think I'd prefer having some USB ports and VGA out. Typing on the IPad doesn't look that confortable either. As a media device it looks great but I'm not sold on it as a laptop alternative.

10" screen on netbook is a bit too small to read. 11" or 12" will be the best. You can also wait for the price drop for 13" notebook.
I am still waiting for the next gen netbook with better cpu and video chip.
